Kimoowun Beads, or Shawn Bourks, is a mixed 2S Métis beadwork artist and fur tufter. She lives in East Vancouver with her partner, baby, and their sweet dog Sophie.
Her family roots tie back to the Red River Settlement in Manitoba. Family names include Ross, Parenteau, Fiddler, Loyer, and Grant to name a few.
Her beading Journey began about 5 years ago, in an effort to further connect to her Métis side. Shawn has had the privilege to be mentored by renowned Métis artists Lisa Shepherd and Adele Arseneau, as well as her Ma and Aunties.
Shawn’s beadwork is thoughtful and full of heart. She creates traditional Métis flower beadwork to contemporary pieces. She tends to work materials, like antler, caribou fur, home tanned hides, dentalium shells, abalone, bison ivorys, vintage and trade beads, mixed with contemporary elements. She is open for custom work, plus she sells online, at markets and powwows.
