Original Born Art (OBA) is a new social enterprise that has been established by Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society to increase opportunities for Indigenous youth through culture, recreation, and art.
Workshops and mentorship are offered to youth to help them establish a portfolio and gain essential skills that they can utilize throughout their lifetime. The workshops consist of traditional and contemporary Indigenous art. Indigenous youth have a chance to learn about their culture and heritage, while expanding their ideas toward something they are passionate about. Currently, the youth have been generating Indigenous graphic designs for t-shirts, mugs, and puzzles. In the next few months, they will be expanding to drum making and carvings. All funds raised from the products will be redirected right back into the program, establishing sustainable programming for Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society’s youth services department.
